Why will my Arizona notary ask for a thumbprint?

Since September 2026, Arizona law (SB 1479) requires notaries to record the signer's thumbprint in their notary journal when notarizing powers of attorney, deeds, and other real estate documents. The print stays in the notary's private journal — it never goes on your document — and it protects you against deed fraud. Expect this extra step at your appointment.
